For years, I dreamed about walking the Camino de Santiago. It sparked in 2018, then hit a fever pitch during the pandemic. Last year, I finally did it.
For half that time, travel was not possible. But doing small things to prepare both kept my spirits up and my dream moving forward. I started gradually buying supplies like a backpack and sleeping bag. When I could, I put money in a bank account just for travel. My Google Doc filled with research became a constant companion as I binge-watched Netflix.
I worried the journey wouldn’t live up to all the anticipation. But it absolutely did. Even if you can’t set out on your own dream trip just yet, taking small steps toward your travel goal can be just as fun as going. Almost.
