France made a stunning announcement this past week: a new tourism campaign will ask people to reconsider trips to its most famous tourist sites.
It’s not that France doesn’t want you to come visit. The government is trying to draw attention to the fact that 80% of visitors go to just 20% of the country, causing congestion and spots to be “overloved” during peak season.
And there are so many other places to see in France beyond Paris and other hot spots (in my experience, fairly easily given there are many air + rail packages available).
Vivian Song writes for us this week about the campaign, highlighting the spots that are most overcrowded, and offers amazing alternatives where you can get the same vibe but away from the hordes.
