| A Trip Around the Planet presents: | | | In this month's On the Road with Lonely Planet, our staff could give Santa some healthy competition in how we circled the globe. Our trips spent a bit more time in location – and as our holiday gift to you, we're giving you all our insider recommendations from those visits so you can plan your own special trip in 2024. Let's find out where the Lonely Planet team traveled this month. | | | Iceland in late November/early December is a photographer’s dream. Sure, you only have 4 to 5 hours of daylight, but nearly the entire time is basking in “golden hour” light sandwiched between sunrise and sunset. My favorite activities: exploring the Katla Ice Caves and Sólheimajökull Glacier on Iceland’s Southern Coast, taking a sunrise dip at Sky Lagoon, and admiring the northern lights at Kleifarvatn Lake. - Matt Paco, Senior Producer | | | I had the opportunity to return to Hong Kong, a city I’ve loved for years. I checked out a few familiar places (a sunset stroll along the Kowloon Public Pier is *chef's kiss*) and some new surprises, like Sham Shui Po, a working-class neighborhood in Kowloon that’s an incredible mix of multigenerational family businesses and markets where you can buy anything from toys to household items. - Alex Howard, Managing Editor, Destinations
| | | My mom dreamed of going to Italy and I purposely planned our two-week trip for early November to avoid the crowds. It was all incredible, but two places stood out. We loved the sweeping views and charm of Hotel Palazzo di Valli, an affordable 11-room property in Siena. And we’re still talking about the ravioli at Taverna Bacchus near the Vatican. It felt like eating at the home of the Nonna we never had (plus the owner serenaded guests with Italian opera). - Melissa Yeager, Senior Editor
| | | Rain, ramen and a Puerto Rican cafe: sleepy Providence has a little bit of everything. Get luxe in New England by heading to The Beatrice during winter and staying in the magically festive Christmas suite. It's a 10-minute walk to the nearby AS220 community arts center for everything from Saturday morning yoga to drag shows. - Rachel Lewis, Senior Marketing Manager
