The memory of boarding a sleeper train in Germany and waking up in Italy still makes my heart flutter.
I was 22 at the time and in the decades that followed, each headline proclaiming the death of overnight train travel would break my heart.
Well, things can change tracks pretty quickly. News about the revival of a sleeper train, newly expanded routes and compelling fare deals brings back that beloved memory.
And while the US has a long way to go to match Europe’s connectivity, there’s noteworthy momentum on our side of the pond as Amtrak makes investments in new long-distance trains.
So the question is: where will your next train trip take you?
