When Mumbai-based writer Akanksha Singh reached out to tell me about the Walkitecture tour that locals were eagerly joining – I knew I needed to hear more.
My barometer for a good walking tour is when the people who live in the city join it to learn more about the place they call home. There’s something about going out on foot that gives you a new perspective of the places you pass by every day.
In fact – architect Nikhil Mahashur got the idea for this walking tour of Mumbai’s complex architectural history from his daily run past the art deco buildings of the city.
Even if you can’t take one of Nikhil’s tours right now, I hope his story will inspire you to look at your own hometown from a different vantage point and consider looking up what walking tours in your town might give you a different perspective on your home.
I want to encourage you to take one, whether at home or on your next trip. (You can even ask us for recommendations if you need ideas of where to go.)
