Want to pick a controversial and hotly-debated topic sure to spark fiery rhetoric and make blood pressures rise? Here’s the grenade to launch: Where can you find the best pizza in the world?
There is no shortage of debates hot enough to melt cheese on this subject. In the United States, spirited trash talk flies between New Yorkers and Chicagoans over who has the better slice. (While both are great, my hot take is don’t sleep on Detroit.)
But one thing that can bring us all together – by surprising none of us – is that on a list of the best pizzas in the world, a restaurant in Italy earned the number-one spot for the fourth year in a row.
Lonely Planet’s reporter in Italy Virginia DiGaetano snagged a reservation at I Masanielli di Francesco Martucci to find out whether the trip to this corner of Italy is worth the hype. I can’t promise you won’t order a pizza after you read it.
