As you read this, I’m headed home after an incredible month in Mexico City.
Last fall, when my lease ended, I craved the chance to immerse myself in the culture and language of another country, like I did a few years ago in Germany.
I’m not alone. While “return to work” certainly has grabbed headlines, many workers also have newfound flexibility. Even if they’re not fully remote, they may be able to take a sabbatical or ask to work remotely for a few weeks abroad in addition to their vacation time. With this new flexibility to travel, services have popped up to help with the planning. Much like a vacation, they’ll book it all for you: apartment, community workspace as well as social events/tours spread out over the length of your stay.
With a bunch on my plate last fall, I paid one to plan my trip to CDMX (and pitched to my bosses to let me write about it for you). I’m returning home with a heart and iPhone full of memories, from eating at Contramar, Pujol and Lardo, visiting Frida Kahlo’s house, hot-air ballooning over Teotihuacán and floating along the Xochimilco Canals while still working every day.
