A Formula 1 race is intense. Like the World Cup, the Olympics, the Masters and Wimbledon, F1 events draw fanatics from all over to experience the rush of cars whizzing around a track. The danger. The excitement. The speed.
F1 takes place in some of the world’s most dynamic cities, including Miami, Barcelona and Budapest. The Grand Prix takes over the whole town with, celebs on every corner and an event in every venue. (Check out the dramatic night race at the Singapore Grand Prix that speeds straight through the exquisite city state.) No one here at Lonely Planet needs an excuse to spend a fall weekend in Mexico City, but the thrill of seeing a hometown driver, Sergio Perez, take to the course in October will be exhilarating.
With all those moving parts, an F1 trip can get complicated. So we got in touch with Formula 1 expert Nicky Haldenby to give us the rundown on how to plan an unforgettable F1 weekend. Start your engines.
