When you think about travelers coming to your hometown – is there a spot you just avoid at all costs because it is over-visited? New Yorkers avoid Times Square. Parisians scoff at the Eiffel Tower. As a resident of Arizona and an avid hiker, you’ll never find me among the crowds at Camelback Mountain.
And, of course, some of these spots – like Venice and Hawaii – are also getting overloved and over-toured. So how, as a traveler, do you break free of the crowds so we’re not all loving these places to death?
I’m excited to introduce a new series designed to help you zig when other travelers zag and perhaps spread the love of popular destinations to other parts of the country. Called “Where locals go,” we talk to our team of in-country contributors who will offer their suggestions of other places to visit.
We’re starting this series by looking at Italy – where three of our writers offer you recommendations of where locals plan their summer holidays to truly experience la Dolce Vita.
